Snooker star Fred's home by the sea

In the year that he won the world snooker championship for the first time, Fred Davis bought an hotel on Llandudno seafront ...

and renamed it The County Hotel. After each major sporting victory, a crowd would greet his return at Llandudno rail station. Fred served in the armed forces in the Second World War but in 1940 he also took part in the "snooker battle of the brothers", playing his older brother Joe. The event was covered by Pathe News. Younger snooker fans will remember Fred from his contributions to TV programme Pot Black. For more on his story, scan the QR codes at the County Hotel. Or click here
