Shipwrecked on arriving home

The Porthmadog schooner Owen Morris had spent seven months away from home, crossing the Atlantic twice, when it passed Criccieth in ...

December 1907. Suddenly a squall drove the ship towards the coast and it ran aground at Black Rock, just a few kilometres short of Porthmadog harbour. All six crew were rescued by the Criccieth lifeboat. An eyewitness recalled how the ship's bell had tolled on that Sunday morning as the timbers were torn apart.
