School sailing tragedy at Criccieth

On this day in 1951, residents of Criccieth were surprised to see a boat belonging to a Bedford school labouring on a choppy sea. The boat capsized at 2pm and no lifeboat ...

The tragedy prompted the RNLI to reopen a lifeboat station in Criccieth, and the victims are commemorated by a simple memorial beside the Wales Coast Path.
