in 1905. He had worked as a tailor in Abergavenny before rejoining the army to serve in the South African war. While he was away, his wife moved in with another man, by whom she had two children. She refused to return to her husband. Beavan escaped the death sentence, and his life sentence was eventually reduced to 7.5 years.
