Merchant Navy sacrifice revealed

The Merchant Navy played a vital and risky role in the First and Second World Wars, and now the details of thousands of seamen who died in wartime are ...

available on the spot at Welsh Merchant Navy memorials. The memorial in Cardiff Bay centres on a sculpture of a face and ship's hull. Many people view and photograph it, but there are no lists of seamen's names at the memorial to show who is commemorated there. Now the HistoryPoints QR codes beside the memorial's printed information open the digital door to details of almost 1,300 sailors, including the names of their ships and where they sank, thanks to extensive research by Byron Jones of the Merchant Navy Association (Wales). Click here to browse the information online. We've also produced QR codes for the MN memorials in Barry, SwanseaNewport and Holyhead.
