Try counting the arches in Crickhowell's bridge over the Usk and you'll never get the same result on the upstream and downstream sides, even if you haven't been drinking ...

at the nearby Bridge End Inn. The bridge has many arches, to enable the river to flow past even when in flood. It was widened at the town end in the 1820s, as part of an early bypass road. The newer arch spans the same space as two of the older arches.
