Rhyl park with two royal names

"The king is dead - long live the king!". That was the basis, it appears, of the naming policy for a new park in Rhyl in the 1930s. It was going to be dedicated to the new King Edward VIII ...

but his early abdication resulted in the more generic "Coronation Gardens" being placed as the official title at the Vale Road entrance. At the other main entrance, from Madryn Avenue, the park was given the name "King George's Field" in memory of King George V, who died 80 years ago this month.
