Bard who laid out Central Park, NY

Poet Aneurin Jones ran the Halfway House in Pontllanfraith, Caerphilly, before emigrating to the USA, where he became superintendent of New York's parks. He helped to ...

create Central Park but also found time to be a poetry judge at American eisteddfodau, where he was known as Aneurin Fardd (Aneurin the Bard). He grew up at Gelligroes Mill and trained as an architect, before founding a printing press. He died soon after being offered the job of designing Los Angeles' Griffith Park, now famed for its Hollywood sign.
