Birthplace of RAF mountain rescue

It's comforting to know the RAF will airlift us from the mountains if we get into big trouble, and it all started ...
at Llandwrog airfield during the Second World War. With novice aircrews being fast-tracked through training at Wales' largest airfield, there were many crashes in the mountains of Snowdonia. The story is told in detail - and illustrated with bits of recovered aircraft wreckage - in the museum beside the airfield.
