In "Dic Loco" we trust

Would you board a train if you knew the driver was known as "Dic Loco"? Conwy Valley aluminium workers had no qualms about it, because the driver wasn't insane. Nicknames ...

like his were common in Wales, where many people had the same few surnames (e.g. Jones) and forenames. They were differentiated by nicknames which denoted their job - locomotive driver in this case - or their place of origin. The railway track once driven by Dic Loco has been partly rebuilt by volunteers, close to the Surf Snowdonia centre in Dolgarrog. For more about the railway's story, scan the HistoryPoints QR codes on the fencepost beside the track. Or click here
