This year marks the 180th anniversary of the British Museum's first acquisition of fragments of the Mold cape, sparking a reconstruction effort sustained over generations. The task wasn't helped ...

by the dispersal of pieces of the gold cape - one of the most remarkable surviving artefacts from Bronze Age Britain - soon after its discovery by quarrymen in 1833. Gradually the pieces were tracked down, and by the 1960s experts were able to reassemble the garment.
