Three cheers for Adam of Usk!

We should thank a medieval lawyer for the survival of the ancient Priory Church of St Mary in Usk. The priory's finances were as weak as some of the priory buildings' foundations when ...

Adam of Usk obtained a Papal Indulgence which brought pilgrims - and their money - to the priory. Adam, who was also a priest and a chronicler of events, was buried near the priory's high altar in 1430.
