Haverfordwest's bridge to the throne

Henry Tudor had no time to lose after landing, from exile, in Pembrokeshire in 1485 so he made a beeline for Haverfordwest, where he knew that his small and still vulnerable army ...

would be able to cross the Western Cleddau river with ease. This was the first town the army had reached in Britain, and fortunately for Henry - leading an armed insurgence against King Richard III - the townspeople gave their support. Later Henry succeeded in defeating Richard at Bosworth and, as King Henry VII, founded the Tudor dynasty.
