Latin. The service would include many Christmas songs and start hours before dawn. It was still a strong tradition in Llysfaen, near Colwyn Bay, well into the 20th century. In 1915 a choir of more fhan 50 children sang at St Cynfran's Church in a plygain service which started at 6am.
