Dry docks up a hill, far from sea


Dry docks are commonly found on the coast, so it may be a surprise to find two of them 40 metres above the river Dee at Trevor, Wrexham. They were built before 1835 ...

and may be contemporary with the nearby Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. It's thought that engineer Thomas Telford may have been involved in designing the swing bridge which carries the Llangollen Canal's towpath across the mouths of both dry docks.
