Welfare down the pub in Dolgellau

In 1802, long before the advent of the state pension and sickness benefits, the Golden Goat pub in Dolgellau became home to a friendly society whose members received financial ...

help when they needed it. By 1873 the Golden Goat Friendly Society had c.£900 of funds. The pub closed in 1904 but the building, which dates from the 18th century or earlier, was later incorporated into the larger Torrent Walk Hotel, formerly the Skinners Arms. For more about the history of both hostelries, scan the HistoryPoints QR codes beside either of the Torrent Walk Hotel's entrances. Or click here
