Education pioneer's missing digit

The statue of Lord Aberdare which faces Cardiff's original university building depicts the education pioneer with right hand intact, but in 1886 one of the fingers was partly amputated after his shotgun ...

exploded while he was out on a shooting trip. The former Home Secretary played an important role in improving education in Wales. He lived long enough to see the formation of the University of Wales, of which he was the first chancellor.
