Bangor's MN sacrifice revealed

Research by the Merchant Navy Association (Wales) has revealed 18 additional Bangor men who died in the Second World War as a result of serving on merchant shipping. They are not named on the city's war ...

memorial but their details are now available on the HistoryPoints website, by scanning the QR codes beside the memorial with your mobile or by clicking here. One of the Bangor-born men, Robert Owen, was taken prisoner of war after his ship was intercepted in the South Atlantic but later died in captivity - in distant Japan. Also not named on the memorial is Hugh Richard Evans, who died aged 16 while helping to transport ammunition in 1946 (after the war had ended) and is buried in an official war grave in Glanadda cemetery.
