New town, same old manor

The new town of Cwmbrȃn is a textbook example of post-war urban planning but its history goes back much further, as evidenced by Llanyrafon Manor, south of the town centre. Some of the medieval building which stood on the site ...

was incorporated into the manor house. The property was owned by the Griffiths family for centuries after lawyer Walter Griffiths bought it in 1616. The house fell into decay as the new town burgeoned around it, but thanks to the efforts of a community group it reopened after restoration in 2012. For more about the manor, use your mobile to scan the HistoryPoints QR codes on the gate beside the car park (you can scan them when the property is open or closed to visitors). Or click here
