Metric mutiny in Bethesda

Publican Geoffrey Davies was disgusted when the UK adopted decimal currency in 1971. For years, he continued to quote prices in his beloved pounds, shillings and pence to customers at the Douglas Arms Hotel in ...

Bethesda, Gwynedd. Decades earlier, his father Alfred had served a meat tea to members of the Welsh Army Corps who were passing through Bethesda on a First World War recruitment march in 1915. Among them was Gwilym Lloyd George, the future Home Secretary. Over a century later, the hotel remains in the Davies family.
