Heiress's fatal fall on Tryfan

We have featured an additional grave at Church Island, Menai Bridge, after historian Hazel Pierce provided the sad tale of Edna Pritchard, buried there in 1935. After her wealthy father's demise, Edna entered Oxford ...

University, where she made friends with other young people who liked mountain walking. In March 1935, she returned to North Wales for a weekend with three university friends, but after reaching the summit of Tryfan the group fatefully split up. Edna suffered a fit on the way down and had to be left alone while help was fetched. Her body was found the next morning. For more on her story, use your mobile to scan the HistoryPoints QR codes at the entrance to Church Island, or click here. Edna's grave is number 9 in the mini-tour of Church Island.
