they were widely regarded as hideous, they were still in place decades later. You can see a photo of them, courtesy of Cardiff Libraries, on our web page about the canal at Mill Lane corner - where Mill Lane joins St Mary Street and the canal made a sharp turn. The scene is very different today, with the canal filled in and New Street, on the far side of the canal, vanished.
