Braving the anti-suffragist mobs

Suffragist leader Alix Minnie Clark endured the taunts and attacks of mobs opposed to women getting the vote, sometimes outside her Newtown home, but she continued campaigning throughout the ...

First World War and afterwards. She travelled widely in Wales and England to spread the message, and her home became known as "The Hut". Local elections in Newtown in 1922 were a turning point, when Alix was voted onto the workhouse board and another woman became a councillor.
