Iconic murder in Hawarden

According to local lore, an icon of the Virgin Mary in St Deiniol's Church, Hawarden, was prosecuted for murder after it fell onto Lady Trawst in 946AD. It was convicted and sentenced to ...

abandonment on the banks of the river Dee. The church was noted in the Domesday Book the following century and was later connected with the family of Prime Minister WE Gladstone. His grandson died in the First World War in 1915 and is buried at St Deiniol's - the removal of the body from France prompted a ban on repatriation of bodies because it was impossible to provide equal treament for all war dead.
