First World War

  • Allaway, Trevor Rhys, Captain. Killed, aged 24, in an accidental bomb explosion in Cairo on 29/06/1916. South Wales Borderers. Awarded Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry in the field. Buried Cairo War Memorial Cemetery. Son of Capt Rhys P Allaway of Artro House. Educated at Cheltenham College. Invalided from the Western Front in January 1915 with a wounded foot and rheumatism. Became a commandant of the Western Command Grenade School and went to Egypt in May 1916.
  • Evans J I, Private 54027. Died of a head wound on 06/12/1916 aged 35. Welsh Regiment. Buried Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery. Son of William Evans of Glanartro Cottage. Brother of O Evans, below.
  • Evans O, Private 35110. Died 10/07/1916 aged 32.Welsh Regiment. Thiepval Memorial. Son of William and Catherine Evans of Glanartro Cottage.
  • Humphreys, Rhys Robert. Of Isallt. Air Mechanic 2nd Class 109537.Died 15/03/1918. Royal Flying Corps. Buried Penrhyndeudraeth (Nazareth) Calvin Methodist Cemetery.
