  • Norman Douglas Lancaster, 40397, Flight Lieutenant, 62 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Died 01/01/1941. Mentioned in Despatches. Commemorated on Singapore memorial. Son of Norman Rutherford Lancaster and Emma Lancaster of Deganwy.
  • Ellis Wynne Lewis, Petty Officer (Yeoman of Signals), D/JX 133846, Royal Navy. Died 17/01/1942 when the Destroyer HMS Matabele was torpedoed by a Nazi U-boat in north-west Russia while escorting a Russian convoy. Commemorated at Plymouth Naval Memorial. Son of Lewis Cadwaladr Lewis and Kate Lewis of Conwy. Lived at 15 Upper Cate Street.

  • David Clifford Lloyd, Lieutenant, Royal Marines, No.41 RM Commando. Died 10/09/1943. Buried at Salerno war cemetery, Italy. Son of Henry Clifford Lloyd and Millicent Lloyd, of Medmenham, Buckinghamshire. Formerly of Woodlands School, Llandudno Junction.
  • George Leonard Marshall, Observer/Pilot 1018213. Died 06/09/1942 aged 28. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Runnymede Memorial. Son of William and Bridget Marshall; husband of Florence Ethel Marshall, of 38 Bryntirion Park, Conwy. Educated at John Bright County School, Llandudno. Worked for contractors Owen & Hughes before joining the RAF. Played football for Conwy and Llandudno and golf at the Conway Artisan Golf Club.
  • Robert Geoffrey Swift Matkin, Third Officer, Merchant Navy - MV Silverbeech (London). Died 28/03/1943, aged 24. Commemorated at Tower Hill Memorial. Born in Dublin. Last place of abode: Sychnant Pass Road, Conwy. Died with 51 fellow sailors, five gunners and three passengers after the ship was torpedoed southeast of the Canary Islands.
  • Vincent Edward Moss, Corporal, 4203880, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, 1st Battalion. Died 18/03/1943 aged 30. Commemorated on Rangoon memorial, Myanmar. Husband of M C Moss of Conwy; step-father of Philip Walsh, below. Lived at 7 Whinacres, Conwy.
  • Herbert Reginald Neal, Flight Sergeant, 1801910, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 49 Squadron. Died 19/07/1944, aged 32. Buried at Herbisse churchyard, France. Son of Joseph Lloyd Neal and Isabella Neal, of Gwynfa, Cadnant Park; husband of Evelyn Betty Neal of Stanmore, Middlesex. Member of the Pharmaceutical Society.   • Alfred Ernest Shields, Ordinary Seaman, P/JX 189451, Royal Navy. Died 22/05/1941 when the Light Cruiser HMS Gloucester was sunk by enemy aircraft near Antikythera island, Greece, during the Nazi invasion of Crete. 694 men died. Commemorated at Portsmouth Naval Memorial. Son of Albert E and Agnes Shields, husband of Alice Shields of Colwyn Bay. Lived at 11 St Margaret’s Road, Llandudno Junction.

  • Aaron Frederick Smith, Chief Wireless Operator, Merchant Navy. Died 28/09/1940 when the 5,200-ton cargo ship SS Dalveen, travelling from Montreal to Hull, was sunk by German bombers off Aberdeenshire. Commemorated at Tower Hill memorial, London. Lived at 11 High Street, Conwy.
