  • Bowen, Joseph Jones, Lieutenant. Died 09/06/1918 aged 27. Welsh Regiment. Awarded Military Cross. Buried Rue-Du-Bois Military Cemetery. Son of J. W. Bowen. Was living in Oswestry in 1911. Worked as a clerk with National Provincial Bank. His family ran the Medical Hall and Siop Marine in Criccieth. Awarded the Military Cross for re-organising the front line during a German attack, and for reconassance which brought back valuable information.
  • Bowley, Henry, Private 37056. Died 05/09/1916 aged 23. Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Buried Bouzincourt Communal Cemetery. Son of William Bowley, Criccieth’s first plumber, and Dora Bowley of Priory House. Before the war he was a grocer’s assistant, lodging in Blaenau Ffestiniog.
  • Edwards, William John, Seaman. Died 26/10/1918 aged 20.Mercantile Marine – SS Roath. Buried Ste. Marie Cemetery. Son of William and Ann Edwards of Sefton House. Son of William Edwards, boatbuilder,and Ann Edwards of Sefton House. His brother was lost at sea before the war. His grandfather, Sion Edwards, carved many of the figureheads for Porthmadog ships.

  • Humphreys, William, Private 904684. Died 05/09/1917 aged 32. Canadian Infantry. Buried Boulogne Eastern Cemetery. Son of Jack and Grace Humphreys of Criccieth; husband of Laura E Humphreys of 9722, 95th Street, Edmonton, Alberta. In 1901 he was living with his widowed mother Grace in Talsarnau Cottage, on the site of the Memorial Hall. Worked as carpenter’s apprentice.

  • Jones, William, Mate. Died 05/05/1918 aged 53. Mercantile Marine - SS Tommi (London). Tower Hill Memorial. Son of John and Mary Ann Jones; husband of Catherine Jones of 13 Marine Terrace. Born at Porthmadog. He was one of four who died when the schooner Tommi, travelling from Belfast to Liverpool with a cargo of scrap, was sunk by gunfire from a German submarine between the Calf of Man and Chicken Rock.

  • Owen, John. Mate. Died 21/07/1917 aged 66. Mercantile Marine – Harold (London). Tower Hill Memorial. He was one of 13 who died when the barque Harold, carrying coal from Liverpool to Santos, was sunk by a German submarine off Tory Island, Ireland.
  • Owen, John Cadwaladr, Private 24913. Died 27/04/1918 aged 21.The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment). Buried Ypres Town Cemetery. Son of David and Elizabeth Owen  ofBraich y Saint. In 1911 he was a scholar living at Pen y Bryn farm, Criccieth. Also commemorated on Pentrefelin war memorial, as his family moved back and forth between the two farms.

  • Parry, Owen. Captain. Died 30/07/1917, aged 52. Mercantile Marine – SS Shimosa. Son of Henry Parry, master mariner. Husband of Jane Owen, nee Roberts. SS Shimosa was sunk by a German submarine west of Ireland while travelling in ballast from France to Canada.

  • Pritchard, Owen, Private 266274. Died 7/10/1917 aged 26. Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery. Son of Griffith Pritchard, town crier and billposter, and Margaret Pritchard, of 5 Bryn Hyfryd, Criccieth. Worked as a gardner. He was a PoW of the Turks and died of his wounds.
  • Pritchard, Richard Owen, Carpenter. Died 13/06/1917 aged 23.Mercantile Marine - SS Kelvinbank (Glasgow). Tower Hill Memorial. Son of William and Emily Pritchard of Merllyn Cottage. Son of William and Emily Pritchard of Merllyn Cottage. Worked as a joiner before the war. He was one of 16 who died when his ship was sunk by a German submarine north of Cape Wrath while travelling from Liverpool and Glasgow to Achangelsk with general cargo.

Son of Richard and Dorothy Roberts; husband of Winifred Roberts, of 1 Lombard Street, Porthmadog. Born at Criccieth. He was one of 57 who died when his ship was sunk by a German submarine near the Channel Islands while carrying steel from New York to La Pallice, France.
  • Thomas, Robert, Private 40682. Died 30/06/1920 aged 22. York and Lancaster Regiment. Buried Criccieth Burial Ground. Son of Hugh and Laura Thomas of Sycharth, also of Criccieth police station. Born at Bethesda. He was a wounded PoW at Langensalza, Germany, for two years before being repatriated.
