  • Edward Leopold Milner-Barry, Lieutenant Commander. Died 7/05/1917 aged 50. Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve - HMS Wallington. Buried Great Shelford (St. Mary) Churchyard. Husband of E Milner-Barry of 50 De Freville Avenue, Cambridge.

Husband of Agnes Maud Bartley, of "Bronderw," Garth Rd., Bangor. Son of Mr and Mrs John Bartley of 50 Orme Road, Bangor. Husband of Agnes Maud Bartley, of "Bronderw," Garth Rd, Bangor. Worked in a solicitor’s office before the war. Invalided home in 1917.

  • John Edwin Bayliss (J Bellis on memorial), Major. Died 29/09/1917. Age 25. Royal Field Artillery “A" Bty. 76th Army Bde. Awarded Military Cross. Buried at Dozingham Military Cemetery. Son of the late John Francis and Amy Bayliss, of Rhyl. Gained a first class Science degree at Bangor University. Played in the university football team.
  • Isaac Gwilym Bevers, Second Lieutenant. Died 02/08/1917. Age 24. Royal Welsh Fusiliers "C" Coy. 16th Bn. Buried at Dozinghem Military Cemetery. Son of Walter Bevers and Margaret Bevers, of Trum Orthin, Harlech. Educated at Barmouth County School and gained scholarship to Bangor University. Was engaged to Gracie Thomas, of High Street, Bangor. The couple had planned their wedding.
  • William Boland, Private 266495. Died 26/03/1917. Age 28. Royal Welsh Fusiliers "B" Coy. 1st/6th Bn. Buried at Gaza War Cemetery. Son of Mr and Mrs William Boland, of Liverpool; husband of Maude Evelyn Boland, of Maelog House, High St, Bangor.
  • John Hughes Bracegirlde, Battery Quartermaster Serjeant 310175. Died from gas poisoning 18/03/1919. Age 41. Royal Garrison Artillery 1/1 Welsh Heavy Battery. Awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal. Buried at Llanbeblig Public Cemetery, Caernarfon. Husband of Mrs Annie Bracegirdle (formerly Roberts), of Mona Hotel, Caenarfon. Worked in South African mines before the war, and had served with the Cape Railway Sharpshooters.
  • Robert Henry Bray, Private 1045. Died 22/08/1915 aged 28. Australian Infantry. Commemorated at Lone Pine Memorial. Born in Bangor to Edward and Sarah Bray. Edward lived in Chapel Street, Bangor. Robert lived with his mother at 19 Garden Street, working as a butcher, in 1901. Robert emigrated in 1907 and worked as a labourer in New South Wales.
  • Thomas John Bulkeley, Private 11442. Died 04/03/1917 aged 28. Royal Berkshire Regiment 2nd Bn. Commemorated at Thiepval Memorial. Son of William and Jane Bulkeley of Bangor. Widowed Jane lived at 35 Mount St, Bangor. Thomas worked as a cabinet maker before the war.
  • William Burns, Private 4501. Died 22/05/1918. Age 49. Australian Infantry, A.I.F. 30th Bn. Buried at St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen. Son of William and Margaret Burns, of Garth Road, Bangor. Worked in the Customs service in Caernarfon, followed by Bangor and then the west coast of Africa. From there he emigrated to Australia. Died in hospital in Rouen four days after being gassed by the enemy.
  • George Carter, Private 35493. Died 25/12/1916. Age 29. Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) 50th Coy. Thiepval Memorial. Son of George and Jane Carter, of 43, Well St, Bangor. Worked as a labourer before enlisting.
  • Norman Carter, Serjeant 663. Died 16/09/1916. Age 24. Welsh Guards 1st Bn. Commemorated at Thiepval Memorial. Son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Carter of 47 Caernarvon Road, Bangor. Was a chorister at Bangor Cathedral. Worked as an attendant at Epsom Asylum before the war.

  • William Alfred Charlton, Sapper 75517. Died 08/02/1919. Age 31. Royal Engineers. Buried at Bangor (Glanadda) Cemetery. Signal Service Training Centre. Son of Thomas Johnson Charlton and Louisa Ann Charlton of 1 Penrallt Road, Bangor. Before the war worked as foreman in GPO telegraph unit. Returned to Britain wounded at Christmas 1918, moving from hospital in Birmingham to Bangor on 29 January, shortly before he died.
  • John Duval Clarke, Private PLY/247(S). Died 07/06/1915. Age 20. Royal Marine Light Infantry Cyclist Coy, R.N. Div. Buried at Redoubt Cemetery, Helles. Son of Amilius and Ellen Clarke, of 106, High St, Bangor. Born in Bethesda. Shot through the head during the Gallipoli landings.

  • Caesar Alfred Cooil, Captain. Died 11/11/1918. Age 27. Royal Garrison Artillery. Buried at Bangor (Glanadda) Cemetery. Son of Caesar Corlett Cooil and Elizabeth Cooil, of 2 Orme View, Euston Road, Bangor. Born in Bangor. Educated at Ysgol Friars and Bangor University. Played football for the university. Died of pneumonia following gas poisoning. Brother of John Dentith Cooil, below.
  • John Dentith Cooil, Private 25453. Died 10/11/1917. Age 20. South Wales Borderers 1st Bn. Buried at Tyne Cot Cemetery. Son of Caesar Corlett Cooil and Elizabeth Cooil, of 2, Orme View, Euston Rd, Bangor.
  • Bruce Duftus Costin, Lieutenant. Died of wounds 24/10/1914. Age 25. West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own) 1st Bn. Buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery. Son of Adele Hobson (formerly Costin), of Tanybryn, Bangor, and John Duffus Costin, of New South Wales. Was captain of the regimental rugby team.
  • William Cox, Lance Corporal 1066. Died 21/08/1915. Age 25. Royal Welsh Fusiliers "D" Coy. 1st/6th Bn. Commemorated at Helles Memorial. Son of John and Lena Cox, of 30, Albert St, Upper Bangor.
  • Thomas Frederick Cromar, Pioneer 184649. Died 10/05/1917. Royal Engineers "G" Special Coy. Buried at Grevillers British Cemetery. Born in Bangor to William Birnie and Alice Cromar; husband of Elsie Harriet Cromar. In 1911 the couple and their 11 children lived at Fron Oleu, Bangor. The family later lived in Wrexham. Thomas was educated at Wrexham County School. Was science master at the Wesleyan High School, Oxford, before enlisting. It was reported that his chemistry knowledge helped the British army deploy gas against the enemy.

  • Hugh William Davies, Private. Durham Light Infantry. Taken prisoner of war on 23/3/1918, age 19. Son of Mr and Mrs Hugh Davies, of 42 Fountain Street, Bangor.
  • William Richard Davies, Private. Son of Mrs Margaret Davies of 16 Minffordd Terrace, Bangor. Died March 1917, age 30.

  • Thomas Drew, Corporal 18334. Died 13/05/1915 aged 24. The King's (Liverpool Regiment). Buried Etretat Churchyard. Son of Edward and Emily Drew of The Sconch, Whitbourne, Worcester.
  • Sir Robert George Vivian Duff, Lieutenant. Died 16/10/1914. Age 37. 2nd Life Guards. Buried at Cement House Cemetery. Baronet. Only son of Sir Charles Garden Assheton-Smith, 1st Bart., of Vaynol Park; husband of Lady Juliet Lowther Duff, of Wilton, Salisbury.

  • Arthur Evan Edwards, Fourth Engineer Officer. Died 18/05/1918. Age 29. Mercantile Marine, SS "Sculptor" (Liverpool). Commemorated at Tower Hill Memorial. Son of William Thomas Edwards, and the late Margaret Edwards; husband of Elizabeth Catherine Edwards (nee Williams), of Mona View, Penrhos Garnedd, Bangor, North Wales. Born at Dublin. Not named on Bangor war memorial.
  • Algernon Stuart Edwards, Lieutenant. Died 31/07/1917. Age 20. Royal Welsh Fusiliers 17th Bn. Commemorated at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Son of Jobe Stevenson Edwards, of Achnashean, Bangor; husband of Kathleen Dora Edwards, of Achnashean. Studied at Friars School and worked for the London & North Western Railway.
  • John Arthur Edwards, Private 45704. Died 24/11/1917, age 23. Royal Welsh Fusiliers 19th Bn. Buried at Lebucquiere Communal Cemetery Extension. Son or Mr and Mrs Thomas Edwards, 4 Tai’r Mynydd, Bangor.

Son of John Stevenson Edwards and Kathleen Dora Edwards, of Bangor; husband of Lucy E. Edwards, of Shrewsbury, and father of two children. Buried by his friend, WF Crosthwaite, C.F., attached 13th Bn. Royal Welch Fusiliers.Worked at the National Provincial Bank in Shrewsbury before the war.

  • William Fenn, Private 1445. Died 13/10/1917 aged 30. Welsh Guards. Tyne Cot Memorial. Son of William and Jane Fenn, of 47 Well Street; husband of Daisy Marion Fenn (nee Spears). Worked as a butcher in High Street before enlisting and lived at 321 High Street. Left one child.
  • James Flynn, Private 52689. Died 12/10/1916 aged 35. The King's (Liverpool Regiment). Thiepval Memorial. Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Flynn, who lived at 1 Back Bryn Ogwen, Bangor, in 1891. Born in Crewe, enlisted in Bury and lived in Bangor.
  • John Foulkes, Private. Royal Welsh Fusiliers 6th Bn. Died 31/01/1917 aged 23. Buried at Cairo War Memorial Cemetery. Son of George and Ellen Foulkes; husband of Hannah Foulkes of 3 Cae Bach, Hendrewen Road, Bangor. Left one daughter. Was a labourer before enlisting. Died after being shot in the head and shoulder on the opening day of the First Battle of Gaza.
  • William Foulkes, Private, 1594. Died 28/08/1915 aged 24. Royal Welsh Fusiliers 1st/6th Bn. Commemorated at Helles Memorial. Son of Owen and Mary Foulkes, of "Tanlon," Aber Road, Bangor. Was a woodman on the Penrhyn Estate before the war.
  • Idwal Wyn Francis, Private 9516. Died 23/05/1915. Age 25. South Wales Borderers 2nd Bn. Buried at Alexandria (Chatby) Military And War Cemetery. Son of Joseph and Ellen Jane Francis, of 53 Eleanor Street, Caernarfon. Educated at St Paul’s School, Bangor, and Bethesda County School. Was a Bangor Cathedral chorister. Joined the army before the war. His initial action in the war was in China.
  • Harry Stephen Hugh Fuller, Private 29316. Died 31/03/1918. East Yorkshire Regiment 7th Bn. Buried at Bouzincourt Ridge Cemetery, Albert. Husband of Mabel Madeline Fuller of 19 Mason Street, Bangor. Worked as a baker before the war and lived at 1 Station Cottage, Llanfairfechan.
