Educated at Rydal Mount School, Colwyn Bay. Worked for tea merchants Harrisons & Crossfield before the war. Died at Weymouth Nursing Home, while being operated on for appendicitis.soldier icon

  • William Robert Lewis, Staff Serjeant (Saddler). Died 09/04/1918. Age 41. Royal Garrison Artillery. Buried at Bangor (Glanadda) Cemetery. Husband of Grace Lewis, of 54 Park Hill, Bangor.He was wounded near Arras in March 1916 and taken to Britain, where he spent his last two years being treated at several hospitals including Beechwood, Newport, and the West Wales Sanatorium.

  • Reuben Claude Oliver Lloyd, Plumber's Mate M/12227. Died 31/05/1916. Age 19. Royal Navy HMS Queen Mary. Commemorated at Portsmouth Naval Memorial. Son of Joseph and Esther Lloyd, of Gartherwen Cottage, Bangor. His mother lived at Yartherwen Cottage, Bangor, after his father died. Son of Esther Lloyd, of Yartherwen Cottage, Bangor, and the late Joseph Lloyd. Reuben was one of 1,226 crew members who died when HMS Queen Mary was sunk in the Battle of Jutland, near Denmark.

  • Hugh Miller, Private 36755. Died 10/04/1918. Age 23. Border Regiment 8th Bn. Commemorated at Ploegsteert Memorial. Son of William and Jane Miller, of 16 Park Hill, Bangor.
  • Henry Morris, Second Lieutenant. Died 28/09/1915. Age 22. Middlesex Regiment 5th Bn. attd. 3rd Bn. Commemorated at Loos Memorial.Son of Rev and Mrs Silas Morris, of Glynafon, Bangor. His father was Principal of the North Wales Baptist College. He received a scholarship to Rugby School in 1906, followed by a Classical scholarship to Corpus Christi College, Oxford, in 1911. Joined Oxford University Office Training Corps in October 1914. He was wounded during the battle of the Hohenzollern Redoubt in 1915, while leading his platoon in an attack along a communication trench. Lying wounded, he encouraged his men forward before being struck again and killed.

Brother of Alfred, above. Was treated in hospital for a gas attack then allowed home, where he died of pneumonia.
  • John Fitzgerald Prestidge (initals: JV on war memorial), Lieutenant. Died 02/05/1917. Age 23. Suffolk Regiment 1st Bn. attd. 11th Bn. Buried at Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension. Son of Frank and Emily Fitzgerald Prestidge, of Victoria Park, Bangor. Educated at Friars School, Bangor, before being articled to Mr Meacher at Penmaenmawr and Conwy and qualifying as a surveyor. Joined the Public School Boys Battalin in September 1914. Promoted to First Lieutenant for his valour on the field at Loos, and was acting captain in 1916-17.

  • John Robert Rosher, Captain Quartermaster. Died 19/03/1919. Age 52. Royal Welsh Fusiliers 23rd Bn. Buried at Bangor (Glanadda) Cemetery. Husband of Martha Rosher, of Masonic Hall, Bangor. He was an Army Pensioner but joined the RWF as Quarter Master in 1914 and was commissioned as Lieutenant. Later transferred to 15th Essex Regiment as Captain. Suffered shell shock and died at Bangor Military Hospital.

While he was watering horses in Suffolk, one horse reared up and knocked him into a river, where he drowned.

Liver in Chicage, then returned home to work as a cashier at Allsopp & Sons, Bangor. Died from septic pneumonia following a foot injury sustained while training in Winchester.

  • Alister Douglas Stewart, Lieutenant 13/10/1917. Age 28. Royal Flying Corps and General List. Buried at Upavon Cemetery. Son of Capt and Mrs NP Stewart, of Plas Lodwig, Bangor; husband of Dorothy Stella Stewart (nee Adams), of Heath Farm House, Petersfield, Hants. Educated at Colet House Prep School, Rhyl, and Cheltenham College. Trained for land agency at Cirencester Agricultural College. Held a post in the War Land Department 1914-17, then asked to join RFC where he was killed in a flying accident at Central Flying School, Wiltshire.

Son of Capt NP Stewart and Mrs Stewart, of Bryn Tirion, Vaynol Park, Bangor, or of Plas Lodwig, Bangor. Joined Royal Scots in 1904, Killed while throwing bombs, standing on the parapet of a trench. Brother of Alister, above.
