HMS Champagne was the Pacific Steam & Navigation Company’s passenger liner RMS Oropesa before the war. It was converted to an armed merchant cruiser, and in 1917 the Royal Navy lent the ship to the French navy, although the British crew remained with the ship, which was torpedoed near the Isle of Man in 1917.
