  • Ellis Wynne Lewis, Petty Officer (Yeoman of Signals), D/JX 133846, Royal Navy. Died 17/01/1942 when the Destroyer HMS Matabele was torpedoed by a Nazi U-boat in north-west Russia while escorting a Russian convoy. Commemorated at Plymouth Naval Memorial. Son of Lewis Cadwaladr Lewis and Kate Lewis of Conwy. Lived at 15 Upper Cate Street.

  • George S Marshall, Observer/Pilot, Royal Air Force. Died in 1943. Lived at 38 Bryn Tirion Park, Gyffin. His nickname was Paddy and he previously attended John Bright’s School, Llandudno.
  • Matkin, Robert Geoffrey Swift, Third Officer, Merchant Navy - MV Silverbeech (London). Died 28/03/1943, aged 24. Commemorated at Tower Hill Memorial. Born in Dublin. Last place of abode: Sychnant Pass Road, Conwy. Died with 51 fellow sailors, five gunners and three passengers after the ship was torpedoed southeast of the Canary Islands.
