In Memory of Arthur Trevor Blackshaw

Photo of Arthur Trevor Blackshaw
Sgt Arthur Trevor Blackshaw was the only son of Arthur and Jane Blackshaw of Old Colwyn. He was a bank clerk and an air cadet before enlisting in the RAF.

After training as a wireless operator, his crew joined 514 Squadron, based at Oakington, Cambridgeshire. On the crew’s third sortie, to Wiesbaden, Germany, their Lancaster bomber was shot down. Four of them died. The other three, including Arthur, parachuted to ground safely and became prisoners of war.

Arthur was murdered by SS Corporal Heinrich Franke, who was later hanged for war crimes.
