Pretty lifeboat station's tragic past
treachorous waters. Crew members have received numerous bravery awards but some lost their lives. In 1910 the cox and two others were lost after the lifeboat was wrecked. The survivors were rescued by local boats, and one of the rescuers was quickly made the new lifeboat cox - aged 18 years. In 1956 crew member Ieuan Bateman drowned after helping to rescue sailors from a French trawler. He was awarded posthumous medals by the French Government and French Lifeboat Society.
