Barrage of criticism begat wetlands

Plans to build a barrage in Cardiff Bay were criticised because the impounded water would permanently cover ...

mudflats which provided food for many wading birds. To compensate, two new wetland reserves were created, one at Cardiff Bay and the other near the mouth of the Usk at Newport. Both are now more than 10 years old and have become valuable habitats. The Newport one has even been designated a National Nature Reserve. To read more about the history and species of these reserves, scan the HistoryPoints QR codes on the new information board at the Cardiff Bay reserve and on plaques at various locations around the Newport reserve.
