Diamond geezers in Bangor

Diamonds weren't forever in Bangor, only for the Second World War - when a diamond polishing factory was ...

set up in the city's High Street. Diamonds were vital to Britain's war effort, and factories which cut and polished them - often managed by refugees from the Low Countries - were moved from the vulnerable English South Coast to North Wales. The first floor above the Burton's shop in Bangor seems an unlikely place for such an industry - but the obscurity of the location kept this important activity safe from enemy bombing.
