of age of Viscount Castlereagh, eldest son of the Fifth Marquess of Londonderry who lived just outside the town centre at Y Plas. A family bereavement meant the lavish 21st-birthday celebrations would have been a tad inappropriate, so the clock's foundation stone was laid on the Viscount's 22nd birthday instead.
