Conwy landlord's dry Sunday sin

An hotel landlord in Conwy was one of the first to be fined after boozing on Sundays was banned in Wales in 1881. Bona fide travellers were allowed to consume ...

alcohol, so publicans had to make a judgement when unfamiliar customers claimed to be travelling. Mr Roberts of the Erskine Hotel was fined in September 1881 after a policeman found a couple of drunks on the premises who didn't seem to be breaking a long journey. The Erskine Hotel is now known as the Malt Loaf. For more on its history, scan the HistoryPoints QR codes in the window to the right of the entrance. Or click here
