the new St David's Church in nearby Pantasaph which they had originally promised to the Anglicans. They had converted to Catholicism while their church was being built. So many people sent money for a new Anglican church to be built locally that there was enough to erect two churches, one each side of Pantasaph. St Paul's, in Gorsedd, was consecrated in 1853 and still retains original pews marked "Rhydd", Welsh for "free".
