Toy story in Abergavenny

A Wendy Boston soft toy was an ideal Christmas present in the post-war decades - for parents as much as children. At their HQ in Abergavenny, Wendy and Ken Williams pioneered nylon teddy eyes which eliminated the risk ...

of children exposing the wires which had previously held eyes in place. They also produced the first fully washable soft toys, manufactured by a 100-strong workforce in Abergavenny, Crickhowell and Hengoed. The Abergavenny factory and head office in Queen Street have long since disappeared, but you can now use your mobile to scan HistoryPoints QR codes on the Robert Price storeroom (on the opposite side of the street) to read the story of Play Safe Toys and see photos of some of its products, courtesy of Abergavenny Museum.
