Flattery got Milford Haven nowhere
was invited to the settlement in 1802. Nelson gave a speech at the New Inn - which was soon renamed the Lord Nelson Hotel - praising Milford's port facilities. Sir William Hamilton and his agent had calculated that this would encourage the Royal Navy to set up a dockyard at Milford, but their plans came to nought.
