Purple Plaque for deaf pioneer
A Purple Plaque was unveiled today at the former home in Rhyl of Dorothy Miles, a pioneer of sign language poetry and TV programming for the deaf, among other achievements. HistoryPoints recommended her house for a plaque after placing QR codes ...
on the gatepost. Scanning the codes with a smartphone connects to our web page about Dorothy's story, including her recollections of childhood at the house in Westbourne Avenue. The page is one of a growing number where our historical information is also available in audio and BSL formats. It was a pleasure to see so many people gather outside the house for the plaque's unveiling, including Liz Deverill, Dorothy's niece.
