when there was a threat of German invasion in WW2 but the appearance of the ones on Holy Island is thought to be unique, and possibly intended to deceive an advancing enemy force. The Holy Island Landscape Partnership has undertaken conservation work on one example in Trearddur Bay and another near Skinner's Monmument at Holyhead - you can read about the structures on your smartphone by scanning the QR codes near each structure.
