Great saves of Llanberis


When he wasn't saving quarrymen's lives, surgeon Robert Mills-Roberts was making saves on the football field ...

as a talented goalkeeper. He played for Wales and for Preston North End, which won the FA Cup and championship while he provided a safe pair of hands in goal. In 1890 he became surgeon at the quarry hospital in Llanberis, Gwynedd, where men often needed amputation or other surgery after accidents in the nearby slate quarries.
