The RAF's albatross

The RAF's insignia doesn't sport an eagle, Llandudno resident Charles Pepper insisted. He should have known ...

because he designed the badge in 1918. He took his inspiration from a stuffed albatross he saw in the British Museum. That didn't stop the Air Ministry announcing in 1949, to put an end to the debate, that the featured bird was an eagle.
