Late and over budget in Llandudno


We're used to public building projects suffering legal wrangles and delays, but that's not new. In 1894 a town hall ...

was commissioned by the Llandudno authorities. It wasn't completed until 1902, after two lawsuits, three different builders and a doubling of the cost. The town hall became a focal point of community life, especially in the Second World War when activities there included fundraising, gas-mask assembly and cookery demonstrations where housewives could pick up a precious packet of blancmange powder.
