Royal National Institute of Blind People

Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB)

The RNIB was founded in London in 1868, when it was known as the British and Foreign Blind Association for Improving the Embossed Literature of the Blind. In 1871 it published the UK's first key to the braille alphabet and music notation. In 1935 it introduced Talking Books (readings of books for blind and partially sighted people to enjoy). Today the RNIB is the leading charity offering information, support and advice to almost two million people with sight loss.

The RNIB has kindly provided readings of many HistoryPoints pages (including some in Welsh). These enable blind and partially sighted people to learn about the history of their surroundings. Sighted people can also listen to the readings while taking in the view of, or strolling around, the featured building or location.

You can hear readings of other HistoryPoints pages too. Click here for a list of pages with audio readings. Click here for a list of pages which have videos of audio readings and British Sign Language.
