Some of the war dead are also named on a war memorial on the village green on the opposite side of the river, in the Radnorshire part of Glasbury.

An official war grave in the churchyard here is the resting place of Mary Winifred Annie Weale, who died aged 19 in August 1940. She was a volunteer with the Auxiliary Territorial Service, the women’s equivalent of the Territorial Army.

  • Arrowsmith, Charlie, Private 57054. Died 08/10/1918. Welsh Regiment. Buried Bois-Des-Angles British Cemetery, France. Born and lived in Three Cocks.
  • Crosfield, Guy Henry Good, Lieutenant. Died 26/01/1918 aged 20. Rifle Brigade. Son of Mr and Mrs JJ Crosfield, of Gwernyfed Park.
  • Davies, Edward, Private 78821. Died 23/10/1917 aged 37. Royal Army Medical Corps. Son of the Rev David and Elizabeth Davies; husband of MJ Davies, of Greenfields, Three Cocks Junction. Buried at Bleuet Farm Cemetery, Belgium. Native of Maesyrhelem. Was a Baptist pastor at Glasbury and Penyrheol.
  • Davies, Frederick James. Reported in April 1916 to have died in Aleppo, now in Syria. Son of Mr Davies of Lloynebach. Served in Royal Navy before emigrating to Australia, where he enlisted in the army.
  • De Winton, Walter, Second Lieutenant. Died 06/09/1914 aged 21. Coldstream Guards. Buried at Bouilly Cross Roads Military Cemetery, France. Son of Major Walter de Winton and Hylda Terese Jane de Winton, of Maesllwch Castle.
  • Gibbon, Wilfrid St Martin, Lieutenant. Died 24/04/1918 aged 29. 89th Punjabis. Buried at Nowshera Military Cemetery, Pakistan. Commemorated on Delhi Memorial (India Gate). Son of the Rev Hugh H Gibbon, of The Vicarage, Glasbury. Worked at Midland Bank, Cardiff, before the war.
  • Griffith, Hubert William Douglas, Lieutenant. Died 01/03/1917 aged 29. Royal Navy – HMS Pheasant. Commemorated on Plymouth Naval Memorial. Son of Rev and Mrs Hubert Griffith, of All Saints’ Vicarage, Glasbury; husband of Mabel Constance Griffith (later Annaheim), of 11 Inverness Terrace, London.
  • Hamer, William Austin, Private 46813. South Wales Borderers. Died of pneumonia on 04/12/1918, aged 19. Buried at Charmes Military Cemetery, France. Was taken prisoner of war on 18/04/1918. Son of John and Sara Hamer, of Old Mill, Llanigon, also of 3 Dinas Terrace, Pontneddfechan, near Neath. Was a bell ringer at St Peter’s Church, Glasbury.soldier icon
  • Holder, Alfred Reginald, Ordinary Seaman J/43130. Died 31/05/1916 aged 20. Royal Navy – HMS Indefatigable. Commemorated on Plymouth Naval Memorial. Son of W and G Holder, of Glasbury-on-Wye, Radnorshire.
  • Hotchkiss, James, Private 13817. Died 26/09/1917 aged 38. King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Buried at Bedford House Cemetery, Belgium. Son of Richard and Emma Hotchkiss, of Church Stretton.
  • Hudman, Ernest, Private 17455. Died 08/09/1916 aged 25. King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, France. Son of Charles and Annie Hudman, of Hillend, Twyning, Tewkesbury. Was gamekeeper for RC Devereux of Tregoyd before the war.
  • James, William, Pioneer 341085. Died 24/11/1918 aged 28. Royal Engineers. Buried at Tourgeville Military Cemetery, France. Husband of Ruth James (nee Lewis), of Post Office, Llowes. Worked for the Midland Railway before enlisting. Was a bell ringer at St Peter’s Church, Glasbury.
  • Jones, William Edward, Private 236820. Died 21/03/1918. Herefordshire Regiment, attached to King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Commemorated on Arras Memorial, France.
  • Jones, William Rhys, Private 38589. Died 20/06/1918 aged 18. King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Son of Rhys and Elizabeth Jones, of Glasbury. Buried at Sandpits British Cemetery, France. Was a bell ringer at St Peter’s Church, Glasbury.
  • Lewis, Hugh James, Sergeant 355154. Died 11/03/1918 aged 28. Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Commemorated on Jerusalem Memorial. Son of Thomas and Mary Lewis, Hardwick House, Pembridge, Herefordshire. Lived in Three Cocks. Worked as a cow man on a farm.
  • Machin, George Edward, Private 7411. Died 14/07/1916. King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, France.
  • Money, Charles Arthur Gilbert, Major. Died 13/12/1916 aged 33. 130th King George's Own Baluchis (Jacob's Rifles). Buried at Dar es Salaam War Cemetery, Tanzania. Son of Colonel C Gilbert Colvin Money and Sophie Louisa Money, of Treble Hill, Glasbury; husband of Madeline Louise Charlotte Money, of Adderstone, Cleeve Hill, Glos.
  • Morgan, Arthur John Russel, Private. Died of illness 19/04/1919 aged 19. Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Buried at Glasbury churchyard. Son of Mr and Mrs Morgan, of Post Office, Glasbury. Was a choirboy at St Peter’s Church.
  • Price, Reginald Sidney, Lance Sergeant 355162. Died 31/10/1917 aged 22. Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Buried at Beersheba War Cemetery. Son of Walter and Elizabeth Price, of Hay Road, Velindre.
  • Pugh, John, Sapper 323536. Died 30/12/1917. Royal Engineers, 96th Light Railway Operating Coy. Buried at Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. Son of Richard and Elizabeth Pugh, of Glasbury. Lived at The Gables, Wyndham Street, Machen, and enlisted in 1915, aged 37. Killed when the troop ship Aragon was sunk while en route for Egypt. Worked as a railway shunter before the war. Left a wife and three children.
  • Wackett, Frederick John, Private 17920. Died 16/09/1916 aged 19. King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, France. Son of Walter and Julia Sophia Wackett, of Maesllwch Lodge. Born in Chirk.
  • Whittall, David Percy, Corporal 53720. Died 05/11/1916 aged 21. Welsh Regiment. Commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, France. Son of John Whittall, of Grove Side, Glasbury. Was a postman in Llowes before taking an engineering job in Abergavenny.

  • Gittoes, Reginald Arthur, Private 4032351. Died 27/06/1944 aged 26. King’s Shropshire Light Infantry. Buried at Ranville War Cemetery, France. Son of John and Mary Ann Gittoes, of Llowes.
  • Meale, Albert Llewellyn Thomas, Private 7958120. Died 09/09/1944 aged 21. Commemorated on Cassino Memorial, Italy. Welch Regiment. Son of Mr and Mrs AW Meale, of Glasbury.
  • Money, RC. Probably: Robert Cotton Money, Second Lieutenant, 85631. Died 27/05/1940 aged 21. Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). Son of Major-General Robert Cotton Money and Daphne Dorina Money (nee Gartside Spaight), of Bovingdon Green, Hertfordshire. A retired Colonel Robert Money was living in Painscastle in 1939.
  • Price, AS. Probably: Arthur Samuel Price, Lance Corporal 2735481. Died 12/08/1944 aged 25. Welsh Guards. Buried at Banneville-La-Campagne War Cemetery, France. Son of Thomas James Price and Annie Price; husband of Enid Dorothy Price, of Knowle, Bristol. Born in Hereford.
