Blackwood cenotaph

This memorial was unveiled in 1926. It commemorates local people who died in the First and Second World Wars. To discover who they were, choose a category below:

First World War

Second World War

We have included names and details of men who died and had local connections but are not named on the memorial.

Among those named on the memorial are brothers Leonard and Claude Harrhy. They died in within less than two months of each other in 1944, while taking part in the liberation of Europe. Two of the Lee brothers, Harold and Sidney, also died in the liberation of Europe, but a third brother survived the war.

With thanks to Byron Jones of the Merchant Navy Association (Wales) and to Shaun McGuire
