Lots of children and grown-ups gathered at this part of the prom in the First World War to take a look at an airship, which was tied here for repairs. Airships were large metal balloons filled with hydrogen gas, with an engine underneath to move them along.
The airship which came to Llandudno had been searching for a German submarine when its engine broke down and it drifted towards North Wales. A small ship brought it to Llandudno, where soldiers grabbed the rope which was hanging down and walked with the airship from the pier to this spot.
