The Animal Wall wasn’t all built at the same time.
The animals nearest the castle were carved by Thomas Nicholls from London in the 1890s. These animals are much older than the animals nearest the West Lodge which were carved in the 1920s.
Can you guess what some of the animals are?
Did you guess which animals are carved on the wall?
Starting from the castle end, the animals are:
Two lions ("Romulus" and "Remus")
A lynx ("Larry")
A lioness
A bear
A seal – ("William or Billy")
A pair of apes ("Martha" the mother and "Oscar" her baby)
MISSION COMPLETE! Well done for completing the trail!
Your star word is CHAMPION and you're a champion of Bute Park for completing the trail!
Here at Bute Park we have lots and lots of trees but what makes us extra special is we have more ‘champion trees’ than any other public park in the UK. If a tree is a ‘champion’ it means it is the biggest of its type in the whole of the country!!
A big thank you to the brilliant History Club at Ton yr Ywen Primary School for creating this fantastic Children's QR Discovery Trail. Thank you for all your hard work ☺
